2018 Day on the Hill

Day on the Hill ValentinesMark your calendars! TAN 2018 Day on the Hill is rapidly approaching – Tuesday, February 13, 2018.

Prep call details are highlighted below.

This year’s day will be a collaboration of UWTN, the TN Afterschool Network, and TN Save the Children, with additional participation/attendance from League of Women Voters, Boys and Girls Clubs, TCCY, and more.

As our legislature has moved, we will be meeting from:

9:00-10:45 a.m. Central Time
Conference room 8D
8th floor of the Cordell Hull Building
425 5th Avenue North
Nashville, TN

The day includes training, issue talking points, and awards for afterschool advocates, followed by visits to legislators.

Turnout is important for us to have the presence and impact we want, so please come, bring staff, volunteers, partners, and youth! PLEASE RSVP to me via email (or phone, 615-495-9970).

Do go ahead and make appointments with your legislators now – for 11 or later that morning. It’s important that we have lots of attendees present when we give our legislators and others awards. If you need help making your legislator appointments, please let me know. I am glad to schedule them for you, or you can find contact information for your legislators’ offices here: http://www.capitol.tn.gov/legislators/. I also encourage you to thoroughly review their profiles at that link in advance so you know their interests, background, and committees.

Given the timing, we are asking any who can to bring afterschool valentines made by children and youth – artwork, letters, etc. in support of afterschool (e.g., I love my afterschool program! etc.). Sharing such materials with legislators has been very effective in the past and makes a great visual for photos. Youth are welcome and encouraged to attend. It’s a great experience for them, and it makes a terrific impression on legislators. We will also have printed content leave-behinds for you to give legislators, as well as talking points for you.

We are awaiting the Governor’s draft budget, finalizing speakers, and confirming awardees’ attendance now, and I’ll be sending you the agenda, information about the awardees, and content for your meetings soon, so you’ll have time to prepare prior to the event. In addition, we will be having a “prep call” Wednesday, February 7th at 10 Central. To join the call, dial 712-775-7031 and enter meeting ID 611-496-968. If you cannot make the call, I will be available to schedule individual/team review and prep/planning at additional times. Just let me know. You may also have additional, locally-driven issues you’d like to discuss with your legislators, and I’m available to help you prepare for that, too, as are other expert members of our public policy committee.

For parking, Music City Central Garage is at 400 Charlotte Ave, St. Mary’s Cathedral Lot is at 350 5th Ave N, and Court Lot is at 301 James Robertson Parkway – all a short walk to Cordell Hull. If you need a hotel, here’s a great link with tons of suggestions: http://www.roadsideamerica.com/hotels_motels/poi/64923.html

PLEASE RSVP by emailing Mary Graham with your name, organization (if applicable), email, and cell phone (phone number is optional but encouraged).

We hope you can join us!
