1. Leap into Science Training & Resources

Free resources and training that connect STEM and children’s literature for PreK-5th grade are available through a national partnership with The Franklin Institute called Leap into Science. Tennessee leads are TAN/United Ways, Discovery Center and Shades of Development. Below is a link for more information and to indicate your interest in participating.

2. Seed Grants:

Discovery Center, lead for the Tennessee Girls Collaborative (TNGC), is excited to share news of the availability of seed grants in support of the use and distribution of IF/THEN resources to partners across the state.

The IF/THEN® Collection is the largest free resource of its kind dedicated to increasing access to authentic and relatable images of real women in STEM. The Collection is part of the IF/THEN® Initiative, a national effort sponsored by Lyda Hill Philanthropies® to inspire young girls to pursue STEM careers while creating a culture shift in how the world perceives women in STEM. Boys welcome! The Collection features 125 female STEM innovators. The digital library offers thousands of photos, videos and other assets that authentically represent women in the STEM fields. The content features careers as diverse as shark tagging, fashion design, and training Olympic athletes, and nudges public perceptions in a more realistic direction that illuminates the importance of STEM everywhere. Check out this great resource here: https://ifthencollection.org/about

3. OSMO Creative Kits

As a result of a partnership between NGCP and Osmo, the Tennessee Girls Collaborative received a generous donation of Osmo Creative Kits. Osmo makes hands-on learning games in which students utilize real-world objects and virtual tools to create an immersive physical-digital educational experience. The Osmo Creative Kit (APPLE compatible ONLY) includes 3 games and is designed for children ages 5-12. Please email Dale McCreedy (dmccreedy@explorethedc.org) if your organization, or others you know about, are interested in receiving the kits. PLEASE NOTE: The games require access to Apple-brand tablets (iPad 2-5, iPad Air, iPad Mini & iPad Mini Retina, 9.7-inch iPad Pro ONLY).
